23 February 2005
I am very pleased to inform you that you have been selected for
admission into the Master’s Degree Program in Higher Education at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst. Although your official acceptance
letter will come much later from the Graduate School, I wanted to let you
know our faculty’s decision as soon as possible.
We are planning a Welcome Day for newly admitted students on Sunday,
March 20 through Monday, March 21. At that time, you will have the
opportunity to see the campus and meet with faculty members and
students. Campus administrators who employ our graduate students also
will be in attendance to discuss graduate assistantship opportunities,
and some interviews will be scheduled. I will let you know more details
about this event at a later time, but in the meantime if you are
interested in obtaining an assistantship, I would appreciate your
forwarding a resume to me as soon as possible. Attaching it via email
is fine.
Also, if you are interested in applying for a graduate assistantship in
residence life, you must apply directly to the Residence Life office. I
have attached information regarding that process. At the time you
apply, please inform them that you have been admitted into the Higher
Education Program, and whether or not you will be attending our Welcome
Day. If you do attend Welcome Day and you are selected for an interview
with Residence Life, you should be able to have your interview during
your visit to campus.
One thing we like to do here at UMass is match up each newly admitted
student with one of our current students so that you can have
conversations and ask questions before you actually attend Welcome Day.
So, within the next week, I will have one of our current students
contact you by email. Of course, in the meantime, feel free to contact
me if you have any questions.
I certainly am pleased that you chose to apply to the UMass Higher
Education Program, and I congratulate you on your outstanding
accomplishments. As you find out more about our program, I hope that
you decide that it is the right program for you.
Sincerely,
Gary D. Malaney
